Generally speaking if a country is being invaded by a neighbor country's citizens, what should it do?

I mean what would be considered the natural typically expected human reaction to such an invasion?...especially when these invaders are a) stealing from your people and taking what belongs to them and b) some of these invaders even have the temerity to say....that its the host country and their citizens who should vacate.
