Can I play Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction without playing any other Ratchet and Clank Title?

The Ratchet and Clank series looks awesome and I would like to start playing it. But I have not played any of the PS2 games and I'm going to start Tools of Destruction first. Will I be able to understand the game's story if I start at Tools of Destruction?
